An idea that found its home

Social enterprise

Pueblo del Sol was born out of a quest: to create a model of development capable of generating opportunities for people, caring for nature, and building the means to sustain both of these goals over time.

In 2010, Ezequiel Ayarza Sforza began to envision a different way to promote development in a region of extraordinary natural and cultural wealth. The idea stemmed from a conviction: opportunities could arise from the region’s own capabilities, knowledge, and resources, while preserving what gave it its identity.

Over the following years, that vision took shape through encounters with local communities and a way of understanding nature, work, and productive activity as parts of the same development. In 2017, Pueblo del Sol was founded in the Sierra of Oaxaca. Agriculture, beekeeping, and local crafts were the first steps in a project created to generate value from the region and transform it into new opportunities for people.

The following video presents, in the words of our founder, the idea that gave rise to Pueblo del Sol.

Pueblo del Sol, part of the Sforza Group

What begins in the mountains continues on the coast. The products grown and produced in Pueblo del Sol are supplied to various hospitality projects, bringing the origin of each ingredient closer to the place where it is ultimately transformed into an experience. This connection is part of Sforza Group, an ecosystem of projects with their own identities and architectural visions that share a common vision. Pueblo del Sol represents the land of origin, where nature, production, and local labor coexist; hospitality expands that relationship and brings its value to those who visit the coast of Oaxaca.

The hotels Casona Sforza and Kymaia, along with the restaurants La Bóveda, Septimus, and La Cueva, are part of this network of sister projects, linking hospitality, production, and responsible consumption with the conservation of the Pueblo del Sol nature reserve. This relationship allows for the creation of a value chain that is more closely tied to the local area: what is grown, processed, and created in the Sierra reaches the coast, while the economic activity generated by these projects helps sustain the productive and conservation initiatives that originate in Pueblo del Sol.

A REGION THAT CREATES OPPORTUNITIES

DEVELOPMENT begins in the territory and takes on meaning when it reaches people.

Pueblo del Sol views the territory as a system in which nature, productive activity, and human capabilities are interconnected. Crops, apiaries, gardens, workshops, conservation, and hospitality are all part of a structure that seeks to use resources responsibly and generate opportunities from them. Production and processing take on greater meaning when they also allow for creating jobs, developing skills, sharing knowledge, and conserving the natural resources that sustain these activities.

A REGION THAT CREATES OPPORTUNITIES

A TERRITORY where every activity contributes to a shared purpose

A vision that shapes Pueblo del Sol as a social enterprise: a model that seeks to transform economic activity into well-being for people, environmental conservation, and the capacity to sustain development over time.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE MODEL

A cycle that transforms VALUE into development, what the territory generates helps to strengthen it

Pueblo del Sol integrates production, processing, hospitality, and marketing within a single model. The Sierra region focuses on production and conservation activities, while the coast expands its connections with visitors, consumers, and new markets. This relationship makes it possible to mobilize resources and build a cycle in which economic activity helps strengthen people’s capacities, conserve the environment, and ensure the project’s continuity . Reinvestment thus becomes a central component of the model: part of the value generated returns to the region to expand its capacity to create new opportunities .

A VISION BROUGHT TO LIFE

Nature, Education, and Decent Work.
Three PILLARS that underpin a shared vision of development

Pueblo del Sol aims for its activities to contribute to conserving the land, building people’s capacities, and creating opportunities for their development. These three pillars guide the project’s decisions and provide insight into its impact beyond its economic results.

Nature
Preserve to
ensure continuity

The territory and its natural resources form the basis of the model. Their conservation makes it possible to protect ecosystems and maintain the conditions that sustain life and productive activities.

Education
Turning Knowledge into Opportunities

El conocimiento adquiere valor cuando permite a las personas desarrollar habilidades, ampliar perspectivas y contar con mayores herramientas para su desarrollo.

Decent Work
Create opportunities that promote well-being
Work connects people’s skills with opportunities to generate income, develop themselves, and share in the value created within the region.

A STORY THAT CONTINUES TO UNFOLD

A model that seeks to transcend TERRITORY; the impact takes on meaning when it manages to remain

Pueblo del Sol continues to evolve with the goal of establishing a model of development in which economic progress goes hand in hand with people’s well-being and care for the environment. The goal is to strengthen this model, expand its reach, and make what has been built a benchmark that can inspire new ways of fostering development in other regions. This vision seeks to extend beyond Pueblo del Sol and demonstrate that development, well-being, and sustainability can move in the same direction.
